Due to the implementation of local search Google has changed the way they produce search results. When anyone uses Google to search for a local business, for example “plumbers canberra” by appending canberra to their search words, the searcher is informing Google they are seeking information only on plumbers located in the Canberra area.

Knowing that only local results are being requested Google will display results that contain information about businesses from the local area stipulated in the search. in our example shown below plumbers from the Canberra area are being displayed at the top of results and above Google normal generic search results.

If you were a plumber who operates in the Canberra region you would certainly want to be appearing in these search results and it’s the same with every category of business who offer services to local communities.

Local search is also a big feature of smart phones and the benefit to consumers and businesses to interact whilst people are on the move and shopping in particular localities.
