Understanding How Google Index and Fetch Web Pages In Search Results
Understanding how a web page ranks highly in Google’s search results can be a real challenge and many website owners never really do achieve that understanding.
Below is a video which Google have produced in which Matt Cutts explains in easy to understand language how Google rankings work.
It’s no great mystery, every page needs to have meta tags that provide the search engine with information of what the page content is about. The page content should relate to what’s in the meta tags and to get the page to move up the rankings it should have other web sites linking to it. If those other web sites linking to your page are judged to be popular or an authoritative site on the subject your web page is about then that’s all the better and Google will rate the link highly.
IPad A Game Changer
Now that Steve Jobs released the Apple IPad several weeks ago, the dust has settled and millions of people now have an IPad and real reviews are starting to emerge in magazines, newspapers on facebook, Twiiter and the blogasphere.
The reviews have been mixed with reviewers loving, hating or staying neutral with their opinions of the IPad.
I think it will be a game changer and more companies will quickly follow with their own versions of pads. Already applications are being developed which just wouldn’t have been effective if they were offered for PC’s or laptops.
In Sydney one restaurant has eliminated paper menus and offer diners IPads that they can use to browse meals, see photographs of the dishes, read revues and order from the IPad.
Jetstar have ordered IPads that are stocked with entertainment applications such as games, newspapers, magazines and movies. The IPads will be available for hire for the flight for around $10.
Sales people are starting to throw away their flip charts, catalogues and brochures and make presentations on their IPads to clients.
Industries are emerging dedicated to developing applications for IPads. Applications are uploaded to the Apple IStore where they can be downloaded to e persons IPad for a small fee, which is usually around the $2.00 mark. But with millions of potential customers for the applications developers who hit the jackpot will laugh all the way to the bank.
I’m entering the application development business and have several apps under development, stay tuned.
